Miss Green Goes to Mars is the title of a story I wrote in the second grade. The year was 1969 and at the end of the story my teacher wrote in red ink "Excellent; I really enjoyed reading your story, Mary. Please share it with the class."

When we were cleaning out my mom and dad's home several years ago, my brother found the yellowed notebook pages in a box in the basement. To my great relief, Mom had saved my story (along with lots of other stuff)!  Mom also wrote the year and my teacher's name on it. It remains one of my prized possessions!

I intended to use that second grade story title as the title of my first book. I have not ruled out a book, but after encouragement from my oldest daughter, I decided to start writing this blog. When she told me I needed a blog title, Miss Green Goes to Mars just rolled off my tongue..so far, I like it!

Though my second grade self didn't know it, I now know that I have always been a writer.
